Reichard Announces Funding for Fire, Emergency Medical Services

WAYNESBORO – Several fire companies and emergency medical service providers that assist residents in the 90th Legislative District received nearly $140,000 in funding through the Office of the State Fire Commissioner’s Fire Company and Emergency Medical Service Grant Program, announced Rep. Chad Reichard (R-Franklin).

“This funding will further help in the departments’ mission of saving lives and assisting those in need,” Reichard said. “The brave men and women who aid us in our time of need deserve the support for improved equipment and training.”

The departments to receive funding are:

• Blue Ridge Mountain Volunteer Fire & Rescue Squad (Fire): $14,170.
• Blue Ridge Mountain Volunteer Fire & Rescue Squad (EMS): $15,000.
• Mercersburg Montgomery Peters & Warren (EMS): 11,334.
• Mercersburg Montgomery Peters & Warren (Fire): 16,106.
• Mont Alto Ambulance Association: $15,000.
• Mont Alto Volunteer Fire Co.: $13,739.
• Rescue Hose Co.: $12,018.
• Waynesboro Ambulance Squad: $15,000.
• Waynesboro Volunteer Fire Department: $26,600.

The grant funding is used to further the mission of providing emergency services. Particularly, the funding must be used for facilities, equipment, debt reduction, training and education. In addition, career departments can use the funding for overtime costs associated with backfilling positions while firefighters are attending training.
